RepoDNA Documentation

Terms of Use

Last updated: October 2, 2026

These terms apply to RepoDNA: the repodna command line, the desktop app, the web interface of repodna serve, and the web version at https://sanskarin.github.io/RepoDNA/. RepoDNA is made by Sanskar and its open-source contributors.

License#

RepoDNA is free and open-source software, licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. The license gives you the right to use, copy, modify, and distribute RepoDNA, and nothing in these terms limits those rights. RepoDNA includes third-party software under its own licenses, listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt.

No warranty#

RepoDNA is provided "as is", without warranties or conditions of any kind, as the Apache License 2.0 states. To the extent the law allows, its authors and contributors are not liable for any damages that arise from using it.

Results are signals, not guarantees#

RepoDNA's results come from automated analysis of files and history, and they can be incomplete or wrong. Findings about security, quality, dependencies, or licenses are signals to review. They are not professional, legal, or security advice, and not a certification that a project is secure, correct, or compliant. Check important conclusions yourself.

Explanations written by an AI model you set up are generated text, not part of RepoDNA's analysis. They can be wrong even when they cite evidence; RepoDNA labels the statements it cannot match to evidence, but check the evidence before you rely on an explanation.

Your responsibilities#

  • Analyze only code and repositories that you are allowed to access and use.
  • You are responsible for the reports, cards, and exports you create and share. Before you share them outside your team, choose a privacy preset such as --privacy public.
  • If you set up an AI provider, you are responsible for following its terms and for what you allow RepoDNA to send to it.
  • Do not use the web version to disrupt it or the services it runs on.

The Apache License does not grant permission to use the RepoDNA name or logo, except as needed to describe where the software comes from. Please do not use them in a way that suggests that RepoDNA or its author endorses your product or service.

Support payments#

Supporting RepoDNA through Buy Me a Coffee or Razorpay is voluntary. Payments are processed by those services under their own terms. They support RepoDNA's development and do not buy a license, a warranty, support, or features. Products on Gumroad are offered separately, under the terms shown there.

Changes#

These terms may be updated. Changes are published in the RepoDNA repository with a new date at the top, and the history of this file shows every change.
