FrameTrellis v1.0.0 Development Has Begun

An open-source, local-first desktop video editor built with C++20.

I'm working toward the first stable v1.0.0 release of FrameTrellis, a desktop video editor developed using C++20, Qt 6/QML, MLT and FFmpeg.

FrameTrellis is designed around a local-first approach: no account is required, and the application does not use cloud processing, telemetry or advertising.

The current foundation

Development has established an editing workflow that includes:

  • Importing video, audio and still images.
  • Editing clips on a multi-track timeline.
  • Trimming, splitting and moving clips.
  • Preview playback and transitions.
  • Undo/redo, autosave and crash recovery.
  • Exporting video to MP4.

The project is still in early development. Additional features, testing, reliability improvements and platform release preparation remain part of the work toward v1.0.0.

Follow the journey

I'll publish meaningful updates about implemented features, technical decisions, testing and improvements as they happen. The aim is to keep the development process transparent and give interested developers and users a way to follow the project's progress.
